The Discussion has gone to ...

... the Announce List?

I have to say I find the MCN Announce/Discussion listserve to be quite amusing at times.
In my short time around here, this is what I see happening to the lists. This is also in part why I started this forum.

On the discussion side, topics and banter is rarely fulfilling with several participants unable to hold a written exchange for very long.
Over time, I can see where folks got fed up with the limited nature of mental stimulation available there and abandoned the discussion list completely.
Many of these folks now subscribe to the Announce list only.

What happens these days is that some people who once enjoyed a discussion on the discussion list have begun to discuss stuff on the Announce list.
Oh the calamity!
What amuses me most is when at some point someone points out that the discussion, which has broken out on the Announce list, should move over to the Discussion List.  
Usually, that is the end of that particular discussion.
It seems that few if any of the participants originally involved in an Announce List discussion are actually still subscribed to the discussion list or give a damn.
I find that amusing although sad in a way.  We are generally missing out on good conversation if we would only do more of it.

For me, this was one of the main reasons to create this place.
I see a need for folks to have a community where many differing ideas can be shared.

Well, that's just the way I see it.  Doesn't make it true, but it seems to be.
Anyone agree/disagree?

Whenever a discussion broke out on the announce list I would wait to see who was going to be the one to first complain. I myself have complained before but have been chastised immediately and felt bad for doing so. Now I watch to see which person breaks the discussion And then I watch what happens to That poor bastard.

Yes. Seems like most of the time that is the point where the discussion ends.
I personally know of one announce lister who advertised for tree work a few times and was just berated off the list for doing so more than once a week.
I mean crazy talk from a lawyer no less.
Sadly, there are more than a few crotchety types around.

Oh yeah, Now that you mention it, I guess he hasn't posted in a while. I am surprised that the persons selling Salmon haven't been chastised like that.

True. I'm sure it is only a matter of time.
I happen to know her as well and she doesn't take too much shit.  

The Discussion list was basically created as a hangout for the trolls, who happily took it over and made anyone interested in civil discussions look elsewhere. I subscribed briefly and soon became disgusted - it was even worse than the mess the same people had made of the various Community lists we used to enjoy - and left.

The Announce list frequently veers off in the same direction, because there are quite a few people who really would like to conversations about some of these topics, but there really isn't a place for that any more. It is a shame that so few people are able to ruin things for so many. Kind of the Dark Side of that famous Margaret Meade quote...

ALL USER'S have agreed to abide by.
