In case you have not heard there is a very active Tango community here on the coast.  We dance "Argentine Tango" (for the most part...) not the "Show Tango" that one may see on the telly!
This is a wonderful way to get involved in dance or a way to expand your dance world with balance and finesse.   It is a lead/follow dance that can be quick at times or slow.  There are no "patterns" as such, just simple steps that can be built upon and built upon again and again.

The local community, under "Tango Mendocino", is a group that has been dancing together for more than 14 years.
We have beginners and experienced dancers.  The community is very supportive of any and all that are willing to try this form of dance.  There are beginning lessons for groups a few times every year and we also are lucky enough to have some folks that give private lesson on the north coast AND on the south coast so do not let the massive geography of Mendocino stop you.
We have a weekly "milonga"  (dance) in Caspar on Thursday nights from 7:30 to 10  and in Elk we have a practica (place to practice and dance) every Sunday, also 7:30 to 10.   You are always welcome to come take a look for free.
If you are interested in joining us take a look at the web site: tangomendocino.com  for contact numbers.

Like most of the couple-dance groups in the county, state and nation we are often short of leaders and long on followers! Sad but true comment on our culture... Tango can be scary for some men/leads (though you do not need to be a man to lead!) at first as there seems to be much to absorb and it takes some time and practice to get one's confidence up, but it is worth it!  There are, if you stay with it, moments on the floor that make all the effort pay off....that moment when you feel you are simply dancing or feeling in sync with your partner are fantastic.
Give it a try!
