Wild Women Weekend, Part 1

Mendocino Stories and Music Series will feature dance, spoken word and comedy in Part 1 of the Wild Women Weekend on Friday November 22. With all women performers, this weekend is dedicated to Antonia Lamb. This event is at the Hill House of Mendocino, starting at 7:30PM.

In the first half O Lei Palaoa - Annie Lee, Lisa Norman, and Sally Stewart - will perform a traditional-style hula, Ke Ha'a La Puna, honoring Pele, goddess of the volcano, Hi'iaka, her sister, and Hōpoe, who taught Hi'iaka this dance. Next, Trillium Tribe, an amazing circle of women who love Middle Eastern Dance, music and song, will create and perform dances both traditional and contemporary. Through their dancing, they celebrate the vibrancy of life and share it with our community. Linda Pack has a story to read to us, about her adventures with Antonia and “The Red Shoes”, which were designed with the help of Bonnie Sanger.

From Family Secrets to Oh My Goddess to The adventures of Super Activist Mother, Sherry Glaser brings some of her favorite Characters, including one inspired by Antonia, to the stage for a special performance at Mendocino Stories and Music Series. An evening of Comedy that walks the fine line of pathos and hilarity. She will also premiere a piece called "Have I got News For You”, her special spin on the evening news. One night only!

Wild Women Weekend Part 2

On Saturday, November 23 Mendocino Stories and Music Series two-part event celebrates the wonderful and talented women musicians of our area. Wild Women Weekend Part 2, is an acoustic concert honoring the memory of Antonia Lamb at the Hill House of Mendocino, starting at 7:30PM. This event featured Antonia Lamb last year.

Once again the Series focuses on our women musicians featuring Nancyjoy Evans, with her honest, eclectic, heartfelt, and dreamy songs. Local favorite Gwyneth Moreland has asked Judy Stavely to join her for a few tunes. Gwyneth sings with a feeling of nostalgia, rooted deep in classic country fundamentals. Judy will join in on vocals and fiddle.

Covelo musicians will be represented by Sheila Fetzer, Marjo Wilson and Robin Kellerstrass. Singer/songwriter Sheila Fetzer says “my songs are spaces of time, punctuated with emotions, reminding me I'm still alive”. Marjo and Robin will sing and play Marjo's original "Mountainchick/ River-rock" songs.

If you were lucky enough to see Teresa Tudury at the Hotel in October, you will be please to know that she has agreed to return and take us on a musical journey of wild, powerful songs and stories.

Mendocino Stories & Music Series on November 29

For our annual singer/songwriter showcase, Mendocino Stories & Music Series will present Americana/Folk musicians Gwyneth Moreland along with Misner & Smith on Friday, November 29. Music starts at 7:30PM at the Mendocino Hotel.

With a voice that invokes Jenny Lewis' solo work crossed with the intimate folk of Gillian Welch, Gwyneth Moreland evokes a feeling of nostalgia rooted deep in classic country fundamentals, modern and original, while paying proper respect to the classics of the genre. Gwyneth has invited bass player David Hayes and brother Morgan Daniel to join her in a few tunes. These special guests have the ability to add magic to the evening.

Misner & Smith’s sound is anchored by their unique vocal harmonies and evocative lyrics. Their music is a search for meaning, songs that yearn for connection, ache for understanding, relish in mystery, and rejoice in creation. They dig deep, and find hope in simple things, in the beauty that surrounds us all.

All ages are welcome! Doors open at 6:30 PM for bistro menu and full bar. Reserved table seating $20, $15 general admission. Call Pattie at 937-1732 or www.mendocinostories.com/events.html
