i think guns should be treated similarly to road vehicles, i.e., autos, trucks, buses, taxis….. each operator requires a license with an appropriate test and a fee. each vehicle and gun requires registration with liability insurance and a fee. these requirements in no way prevent having a well-armed militia now known as the national guard normally controlled by each state governor. the swiss keep the army guns at home but have a different culture with crime more limited to white collar by the bankers.

I fully agree.
I very much like the idea of having liability insurance for guns.

The problem I see with that is that when you have to pay fees it becomes a privilege and not a right. Also Insurance Co are crooked so I can't see giving them any money. My 2cents.

the constitutional right is for an armed militia (national guard controlled in normal times by the governor in each state. however it is a privilege to own and exercise the use of a gun and any restriction is to protect the majority. very similar to right of travel and privilege to drive.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.". The right of people to keep and bear arms is pretty clear here. Poor peoples rights would be infringed upon if they had to pay any sort of fee for this right.

presumably the preamble to the document gives the purpose of the document. "insure the domestic tranquility" is over-riding to the details of the document itself. thus guns need to be regulated like cars and many other things like drinking water.

Well I think the US Govt could start by regulating the millions or even billions of dollars in arms they sell to the worlds worst people but that regulation needs to happen first. As for the American people I don't have a problem with training and waiting periods but am strongly against any kind of tax or infringing upon their ability to own guns. Paying a fee doesn't make one responsible nor better prepared to use a gun and just gives more money to a broken/fixed corrupt govt. If the fee is small and simply goes to cover the cost of the training I don't have a problem with it necessarily.

I believe in working on the societal problems we have before blaming incidents on access to guns. Also the fact that Native American and Black people have rightfully had to use guns to defend themselves against the police, Sherrifs, Marshalls........ect. We can't take that away from or inhibit them and other marginalized groups.

As pointed out by many: Back when the Constitution was written there were only One shot Muskets. Who would dream that we would have guns that would shoot 30 round clips?
Also, the Militia was formed to Keep slaves in their place.

Militias were not formed to keep slaves in place and that was a Truthout and Alternet article that has easily been debunked. You can google it.

Also a Harvard study disproving that a gun ban would reduce crime.
